Hayate no Gotoku!! 2nd Season Episode 14 – Crazy Clan
July 6, 2009
Isumi loses her spiritual power and a blood sacrifice is needed to restore it. The catch? Hayate fits every category of the compatible donor. This episode introduces the females of the Saginomiya clan.
Last time, at the night of Hinagiku’s birthday, Hina and Hayate spend the night alone in the Clock Tower due to a letter of challenge. She reveals her past to Hayate after spilling her emotions due to the strength of Bokutou Masamune. She and Hayate develop their friendship more and Hina finally comes to a conclusion: She loves Hayate!
Before we go to the main episode, a special segment is placed. The Hayate no Gotoku!! Popularity Contest Results!
Nagi and Hayate hosts the results as the main heroes of the series. Ten no Koe announces the results. Here are the results from 10th place to 1st place.
Of course, Nagi can’t believe that as the main heroine of the show, she landed as 3rd Place, beaten by Maria and Hinagiku. Added the fact that Hinagiku had won the contest with 4000+ votes, whilst everyone else had 1000+ from 5th to 2nd Place.
Nagi suddenly wakes up from her sleep. She gets relieved that it was only a dream and the results were probably a part of the bad dream.
Now we go on to the main episode.
We start off in some remote area and it seems like Isumi has just destroyed a youkai apparition. Sakuya was there to help Isumi again. Though it seems it took them more effort than usual to destroy it. As they decide to call it a day, a survivor appears and attacks them. Isumi tells Sakuya that she’ll handle it and runs towards it, brandishing her talisman. But as she runs, the talisman loses its power. It seems Isumi had run out of power and the survivor… well, survives.
The next morning, Maria gives Hayate a package to be delivered to the Saginomiya Estate as they heard that Isumi was not feeling well. Nagi, while playing a video game, says that she was told that she didn’t need to come. Hayate lectures her about her position in playing video games while picking her up and correcting her. As he makes his way to the Saginomiya Estate, Hayate spots a woman staring at the front gate. It seems she is having trouble finding out how the intercom works.
As Hayate teaches the woman how to use the intercom, Isumi opens the gate. It seems the woman is Isumi’s mother, Saginomiya Hatsuho. Isumi leads Hayate and her mother inside. Inside, Isumi’s grandmother mistakes Hatsuho as the new Sanzenin butler.
Isumi organizes her family’s thoughts and in the meantime, Hayate remembers something Nagi told him before. When he asked why Isumi leaves the house alone despite knowing that she gets lost all the time, Nagi explains that it’s because Isumi thinks she’s organized. Now that Hayate has witnessed just what kind of people Isumi’s relatives are, he now understands why Isumi feels so organized.
Isumi apologizes for her family’s act. Hayate asks her what happened as he was told that she wasn’t feeling well. Isumi explains that she is physically well but her power is not. The little monster survivor from earlier appears again and taunts Isumi, causing her to chase after it. Hatsuho adds that Isumi’s power is greater than hers and her grandmother’s but as she is still young, her powers are unstable. Hayate asks what could possibly be the solution. Hatsuho then reveals to Hayate what they need:
1.) Someone who’s sixteen years of age.
2.) Strong and sturdy but looks feminine.
3.) Was born with misfortune around him and works as a butler.
4.) A boy with a name that starts with “Ha–”
That person who fits in those categories must be driven to the verge of death as they need that person’s blood. Hayate then gets the chills. He thinks for a while. Isumi is his master’s friend after all. Hayate prepares to offer himself but Isumi stops him. Isumi tells him that this whole thing was caused by her own immaturity so she doesn’t have to get Hayate involved. But as they talk, the monster had evolved.
As Isumi was held by the monster, Hayate rushes in with a spiritual weapon from Hatsuho. He doesn’t know how to use it or where to strike though.
Suddenly, a small mosquito-like being tells Hayate what to do. The monster was simply an illusion. The real monster should be somewhere if he just focus his eyes. Hayate focuses his eyes for a bit and he suddenly finds the culprit.
After Hayate defeated the real monster, the giant version disappears and Isumi falls. Hayate manages to break her fall. After that, Hayate prepares to leave the place. He offers his services again as he’s used to being on the verge of death anyway but Isumi rejects the offer. She wants to do it by herself. As he leaves to return to the Sanzenin Estate, a suspicious figure watches him.
Part B. As Hayate makes his way back to the Sanzenin Estate, he ponders about Isumi’s condition, not being able to use her powers at all. He wonders about what kind of thing is “on the verge of death”. As he walks, he notices a box filled with abandoned animals: ranging from kittens, to puppies and even monkeys. He remembers taking Shiranui in and it caused lots of problems with Tama. He begins to think if he should just treat it like he never saw such a thing. Suddenly, several blades almost hit Hayate in the back. It was from the suspicious masked person. As the person missed in their surprise attack, they call off the whole operation and leaves with the animals, as they were accomplices in distracting Hayate.
For some reason, Maria shows up. She doesn’t know how she got there too as she was on her way to the grocery store. She and Hayate walk to the grocery store.
And so… Maria feels a hand touching her from behind. She quickly retreats away from Hayate and accuses him of doing it. Hayate becomes distracted again, trying to straighten a misunderstanding with Maria. The masked person takes this opportunity again and strikes Hayate from behind, but Hayate feels it coming and dodges at the last second. Well, the masked person runs off again.
As Hayate feels glad that the misunderstanding was cleared, Maria feels terrible and orders Hayate to chase after the masked person. Hayate does so. Meanwhile, Isumi looks for her great-grandmother Ginka, who seems to be missing. Hatsuho explains that Ginka went out to fix Isumi’s problem and Isumi deducts that Ginka is out to get blood from Hayate. She runs off to stop Ginka.
Back with Hayate, he runs from roof to roof in order to follow Ginka. She stops as she notices Hayate approaching. She tries to bribe Hayate with money but then immediately sets it on fire and tosses it to Hayate. Hayate drops it and steps on it to get rid of the fire. He finds out that it was just fake money. He suddenly feels another back attack and turns around to destroy the hammer that Ginka intented to use on him. If surprise attacks don’t work anymore, Ginka switches to using long-ranged weapons. First, she fires a crossbow. Hayate dodges them and she switches to kunai with some animals attached on them. Ginka AGAIN uses the opportunity of a distracted Hayate to go behind him but Hayate already knows this pattern and successfully kicks Ginka’s mask off.
Ginka complains about Hayate kicking her face and then says she no longer cares and summons chains this time. She attaches them to a nearby vehicle and a large water container to attack Hayate with them.
She suddenly stops and drops her weapons. She stays on the ground and as Hayate approaches her to check on her condition…
In a very rare occasion, Isumi doesn’t get lost and explains to Hayate that her great grandma feeds off a person’s blood to maintain her youth. Hayate seemed to prefer the loli Ginka and offers his blood as payment for kicking Ginka in the face earlier. Though Hayate wonders how will be in the verge of death for the blood to take effect and Ginka bites on his head, telling him that she’ll “suck him dry until he’s on the verge of death”. Oh please, do not take that into another context just because I put quotation marks on it~
After that… Hayate blacks out…
Some time after that, he finally returns home to his ojousama’s place.

The lesson for today? Always take note of how much blood you lose when you donate your blood.
Anyway, sorry about the quality of the review. I had a headache while writing this one and had an upcoming report tomorrow. Exams are also gonna be next week so I need to focus on studying so episode 15 may be late.
I thought this was gonna have its own long arc but it seems to be a single episode one. The next episode is about a visit to Izu. The preview is quite promising, seeing Hina and Ayumu are also on the trip.
Hmm… what can I say… an epic Hina arc just finished last time and I’m still in awe. This one isn’t as major but it’s still funny. Though one must wonder what happened to all of Isumi’s bodyguards and the male population of the household.
Also, congratulations to Hina-chan in winning the Popularity Poll. I wish Miki also made it to the list though.
Anyway, this is the Bunny Chief, over and out!
MIKI ;;
