Chrome Shelled Regios 24 (End): The world is not enoughJune 29, 2009
Welcome and enjoy the Fonfon show~ we can offer you hax, hax and … even more hax! Nonetheless I’d say you bother yourself with reading the whole post since the ending was good and filled with enough action and plot to make it a worthy ending of a nice series.
The episode starts with Gorneo and Shante talking to Leerin, she’s still begging to bring the katana to Layton. Gorneo tells her it’s useless since he’s only been using regular swords in Zuellni and not a katana. Leerin realises that Layton has done that to atone for his sins and wonders why he awlays thinks of others instead of himself first. As she starts crying she begs Gorneo once again to bring the katana over to Layton…
The music for this scene : Yasashii Uso – Leerin Marfes , personally I prefer Yasashii Uso above Ai no Zuellni, but that’s just my opinion. Song is findable on the ED album though there she’s singing together with Chrome Shelled.
Somewhere in the desert, Savaris has succesfully captured Nina and wants to get the Haikizoku out of her. Since he heard…
He punches Nina to bring out the Haikizoku within her, but the second before he strikes Nina again, Layton appears on the screen for the first time in this finale. He stops Savaris’ second attack, yet the cliff on which they were standing collapses. Nina falls down, but Layton saves her in time. Meanwhile, the Haikizoku is released from her body and moves into Savaris (I think the goat mentioned he wanted to be/use the strongest soul, so not really that much of a suprise) Savaris gains the power of the Haikizoku, at the same time several pillars are rising out of the ground and purify the air inside the barrier. (I have no idea who made them pop out though, but it’s either Savaris or Saya)
At Grendan the Queen asks who caused the tremors, but no one can answer her. Her minions fighting spirit gets renewed by it though and they charge once again.
Meanwhile Savaris shows off his new powers and taunts Layton. Layton wants to secure Nina’s safety and runs away from her. Savaris gets tricked by that one, but he probably doesn’t care about Nina anyway. He attacks Layton with his upgraded Rasen***.
With a simple snap of his fingers Savaris splits Laytons helmet in halves and both explain their reason to fight…
Gorneo has been convinced by Leerin to bring over the katana, at least he has a valid reason to fight his own battle : to protect Zuellni. Shante asks him why he wants to protect Zuellni, she wouldn’t bother if it got destroyed. Gorneo answers that he doesn’t want that, since it’s the place where he met Shante…
Layton is having a hard time dealing with Savaris’ strong attacks. Through Felli’s petals Leerin communicates with Layton telling him she’s coming over to bring the Psyharden katana. Layton, while dodging Savaris’ attacks, refuses at first, but Felli convinces him to receive it.
At the same time Savaris prepares his final strike…
Before we get to see the result of that we move back to Grendan… the Heaven’s blade breaks free from the hidden temple and flies over to Layton. The sword blocks Savaris’ attack, Layton grabs it using both hands and swings it around to blow the strike back at Savaris and end the match.
Savaris is done for and right after the match Leerin storms…rather falls down the mountain to get to Layton.
She hands over the Psyharden katana and Layton hugs her telling her he’s relieved she’s alive. As Layton gets up and activates his newly received katana, the image of Saya shows up on the blade.
Layton brings the Heaven’s blade and the Psyharden katana together to form an even better blade.
At the meantime, Gorneo and Shante are treating Nina and she wishes Layton to advance forward. Then we suprisingly get back to the Grendan basements, the place where Barmelin is still fighting alongside with Dixerio. The masked gang mentions something from their prophecy again and then dissapears, leaving the rest behind. Back in the desert the Filth monster keeps on regenerating making the Grendan warriors feel like they’re just doing useless work. The two Filth monsters develop a new form and fly off towards Zuellni. One gets stopped, but the other one starts moving on and attacks Zuellni.
While Zuellni is being attacked, the fighters are trying to fire the Kei-ra cannon once more. The platoon is watching how Zuellni is being destroyed, but since they’re too far away they can’t do anything about it. Back at Zuellni, the president commands to evacuate everyone since Zuellni’s fate has been sealed and the situation is hopeless. The cannon can’t be fired since the monster is moving to fast afterall.
Everyone wonders where Layton is, but the answer to that doesn’t make us wait too long as we suddenly see Layton surf through the atmosphere on his Heaven’s blade. That on the melody of Brave your truth by Daisy x Daisy.
He smoothly evades all the incoming attacks from the Filth monster and asks Felli to pinpoint the weakspot on it.
Layton pierces his sword into the back of the Filth monster and slices it through until the end of its back.
Cloud Layton paralyzes the beast and now the Kei-ra cannon has an easy job to finish off the monster. The other Filth monster shares the same faith as the first one and gets destroyed by the Grendan platoon.
The monsters are destroyed, Nina gets shown in an alternate space where she’s talking to Dixerio. He tells her about the prophecy. He tells her that they need to keep on fighting…
At the end we see the usual everything is back to normal like it should be shots… not much explanation needed for those…
Two more things should still be mentioned though : One is Saya picking up the Hikizoku mask and second is the Queen telling about the precious right eye of Leerin. I guess both are manga material so I won’t try to give an explanation for them.
And with that Regios has come to an end.
Ofcourse this was an open ending what did you expect in the first place, there was no way they could’ve stuffed the whole plot into one episode. Though I have to admit they did their best to stuff a lot in it, the masked gang, Dixerio and even Saya’s plot all got partly done, but there’re still some questions there. Leerin’s eye and Saya finding the mask might be season 2 openers, but don’t get your hopes to high yet since such things happen a lot in these kinds of series afterall (think of Claymore…)
Anyway about the episode :
Damn, nice way to turn around a fight Savaris got pwned in less than a sec even with Haikizoku hax… ah well no one can beat Layton hax afterall.
Also seems like when the city is being randomly destroyed, the highest, most obvious, most visable building in the center is being missed by the Filth monster… nothing unexpected if you watch anime a lot but it’s just funny when you notice these “little” details.
Flying swords… fusion of swords… it was a bit dissapointing, you always see the wizkid Harley working his ass off to make and repair a Dite. Then Layton suddenly fuses 2 blades, not to mention surfing on one…
Overall this was a fun series, I always looked forward to watch Regios though my enthousiasm kinda dropped in the end, it was always fun to watch. The characters all developed like they should have, though I wanted to know more about Nina’s past and maybe a bit more about Felli’s background. This series didn’t dissapoint me and I think you’ll have to agree with me when I say that you also loved how Layton was an ultra uber warrior eventhough it was too obvious sometimes.
This was the final Regios~
See you some other time!
For the last time : RESTORATION!
